How To Care For Your Human Hair Wig And Synthetic Wigs

So you’ve been wearing you new Human Hair Wig or Synthetic Wig and it now time to wash it.

Caring for you wigs is an easy and simple process and can done correctly can extend the life of your wig.

Washing Human Hair Wig

When washing a Human Hair Wig it is slightly different than washing a Synthetic Wig.

It’s recommended that you use a good quality shampoo. We would recommend Mizani Milk Bath as it revives dry and brittle hair. This is great because your Human Hair Wig is not getting the natural oils and vitamins it would get if the hair was attached to your head. We would also recommend Mazani Moisturfusion Silk Cream Conditioner.

1) Brush the tangles gently out of your wig or hairpiece, starting from the ends and working your way upwards. To reduce the amount of hair shredding from the wig or hairpiece hold the hair in a ponytail and brush the ends moving your hand upwards and working upwards to the top of the wig or hairpiece. If the wig is curly then it may be better to use a wide tooth comb.

2) Using either cool or lukewarm water, fill your sink.

3) Submerge the hairpiece in the water and then squeeze a small amount of the shampoo into the wig.

4) Making sure that you have squeezed the shampoo into the wig as much as possible, rinse out the shampoo.

5) Repeat step 3 & 4 as the shampoo will lather on the second dose of shampoo.

6) Gently squeeze out any excess water and apply the conditioner. Read the instructions on the bottle of the conditioner to see how long to leave it in for.

7) Rinse out the conditioner.

8) At this time you can leave a leave in conditioner and let the hair drip dry. you can use a hair dryer, however this will reduce the life of the hair.

Washing Synthetic Wig

There are specific shampoo’s and conditioners that can be used for synthetic or fibre wigs. The Mizani products mentioned previously can also be used.

When brushing the wig or hairpiece you need to use specific brushes or combs for use with synthetic wigs. However if you use a brush that has rubber tips, that will protect the fibre from splitting.

Synthetic Wigs are very simple and easy to wear and maintain. You only need to wash them once every 10-13 you wear them. The wig will need to be washed due to the build up of the oils from your scalp, however if you wear a wig cap this will reduce this.

Also washing the wig often reduces the life of the wig and using styling products on your wig will mean that you would need to clean it more often.
