What Are The Different Wig Caps Available?
When buying your new wig, you will also need to know what the different types of wig cap constructions would suit you best or what you like.
There are several different wig cap constructions and we’ll focus on the main ones.
Mesh Wig Caps
Traditional wigs are machine made mesh cap construction and these are the most common construction of wigs.
The front of the wig has a lace like material which creates the natural looking parting on the outside of the wig. The parting is always fixed and the only part of the wig that can be changed if the fringe if it is ling enough.
There are always adjustable straps at the back of the wig, which can be tightened for a more secure fit. The adjustable straps will either be made from velcro or will be hooks where they fit into eyes fixed onto the wig.
On some of these these types of wigs you may also have three small combs, one at each temple and one at the back of the wig. These combs can be pushed into your own hair for more security.
Lace Front Wigs
Depending on the cost of the Lace Front Wig, the lace at the front can be made from a cheap plastic type of material which is very firm on the forehead. You’ll find this type of material mostly in Synthetic Lace Front Wigs.
The Lace Front of Human Hair Lace Front Wigs should be made from either French or Swiss Lace. Either of these types of lace are more comfortable than the cheaper plastic material. However Swiss Lace is more comfortable and more importantly is thinner than all of the other types of lace previously mentioned.
The benefit of a Lace Front Wig is that you can part the hair anywhere on the lace base. This is because the hair is individually hand tied to the lace front, which then gives a more realistic impression that the hair is growing from your scalp.
If there is no fringe already cut into the wig, you can have a fringe cut into the wig.
The downside of a Lace Front Wig is that you would need to attach the wig using either liquid glue or double sided tape.
The rest of the wig is machine made weft construction, with the adjustable straps at the back of the wig.
Glueless Lace Front Wig
Glueless Lace Front Wigs are a hassle free alternative to wearing a wig that requires glue. They are similar to Lace Front Wigs but you don’t need to use glue, tape or pins to secure the wig.
Lace Wigs are completely made from lace, either French or Swiss Lace. a stretch section, at the crown of the head, integrated into the lace base.
The stretch section allows you to put the wig into a high ponytail. All of the hair is individually hand tied to the lace, which means that you can part the hair anywhere on the wig.
Lace Wigs are the most versatile as the lace base means that you can play around with the style and have the wig cut to a style that suits you. That’s why you’ll see Lace Wigs will come un-styled so that you can have the option to then have it styled in a cut that suits your face.
With Lace Wigs you will have to attach the wig using either liquid glue/adhesive or double sided tape. Depending on how much you perspire will depend on how long the glue or tape will adhere to your head.
Monofilament Wigs are very similar to Lace Front Wigs in effect. Due to the Lace Front or Monofilament, it will always look like the hair is growing from your scalp.
The monofilament can be a parting, at the crown of the head or the with the whole of the front of the wig being monofilament.
All of the above wigs are suitable if you suffer from partial or total hair loss.
