Volume for Long Hair
You baby your hair for months, years even, to care for it and grow it out nice and long. Bet as soon as it gets long enough to touch your shoulders, it becomes heavy and falls flat, no volume. Don’t give up, try some of these tricks to fight gravity and restore fabulous volume to your long locks.
Volumize long hair: Step #1
Great hair starts with a great haircut. Surface layers that are cut at a sharp angle to blend in with the rest of your hair will get you started in the right direction.
Volumize long hair: Step #2
Step one in giving your long hair great volume is to prepare it with an elevating shampoo and nourishing conditioner. To keep your roots from going flat, be sure to apply conditioner only to the ends of your hair. While it may be tempting to wash every day, this will only cause your hair to go limp.
Volumize long hair: Step #3
After washing and condition, wrap your hair up in a towel. Try wrapping the towel around small sections of hair and squeezing to absorb water quickly. This technique roughs up the cuticles of hair as well, lending a little extra lift. Once most of the moisture has been removed, give your roots a spritz of root boosting spray.
Volumize long hair: Step #4
While tugging your hair straight out from your scalp, give your hair a blast with your blow dryer until it’s nearly dry. Next, clip all of your hair up, except for one 2 inch section. With the blow dryer aimed at this section of hair, brush it straight out from your scalp from underneath with a round brush. Continue until dry, then repeat on the next section, leaving the hair on the crown for last. You can also try blow drying your hair upside down for similar results.
Volumize long hair: Step #5
Once your hair is dry, grasp the section of hair right above your ears and pull it straight up. Use your blow dryer to give the section a ten second blast of hot air. Hold the section up until it cools. Repeat on the other side and there you go.
Volumize long hair: Bonus Tip #1
Don’t want to spend a lot of time blow drying your hair in the morning? Try washing and conditioning your hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, then rolling your hair in large curlers before going to bed.
Volumize long hair: Bonus Tip #2
Once your hair is dry, whether you used a blow dryer or slept in large curlers, flip your head upside down and give your roots a light mist of hairspray.
Volumize long hair: Bonus Tip #3
If your hair is really fine, use a light hand with the hair products, as too much can build up and weigh hair down.
Volumize long hair: Bonus Tip #4
If you always part your hair the same way, try parting it on the other side for a little bit of extra lift.
With these secrets, you need never be frustrated by flat hair again!
